The Annapolis Digby Economic Development
Agency, located in the province of Nova Scotia, is
currently inviting wood pellet manufacturers and businesses in related
industries to explore the financial opportunities in the Annapolis Digby
region.
A recent feasibility study regarding establishing a wood pellet and woodchip
production facility within the Annapolis Digby region has determined that
the region has close to 500,000 tons of woody biomass that could be harvested
on an annual basis. That same study indicated that a local pellet market
of at least 30,000 tons per year could be developed.
The Annapolis Digby Economic Development Agency can offer assistance
with financing, marketing, exporting, staffing, and a host of other business-related
resources you need to succeed. By investing in Annapolis Digby, your company
will benefit from a wealth of knowledge and resources, resulting in a
greater return on your investment.

Low Cost
Canada is the lowest-cost G7 country in which to do business, according
to the 2006 KPMG Competitive Alternatives International Business Cost
study, which compared 121 communities in 11 countries around the world.
Transportation
Nova Scotia’s advanced transportation infrastructure puts the
world at your doorstep, and its close proximity to the eastern seaboard and the New England states makes it an ideal business location. The Port of Halifax is Canada’s Atlantic gateway to the
world; it is the only seaport on the East Coast deep enough to accommodate
fully laden post-Panamax vessels with seamless intermodal connections
to and from the heartland of North America. A center for world shipping,
it is served by more than 30 shipping lines.
The port is a strategic gateway to the American Midwest and central Canada.
Its position makes it the first call in and last call out of the Europe-North
American trade route. Container cargos shipped through Nova Scotia and
bound for the American Midwest and central Canada arrive three days sooner
than those shipped through New York, Baltimore, or the St. Lawrence Seaway.
From the Port of Halifax, double-stack trains move daily, seven days
a week, to the Canadian National (CN) rail terminals in Toronto, Montreal,
and Chicago. Specialized rail equipment is available for bulk, break bulk,
heavy-lift, and containerized cargo.
The Annapolis Digby region also boasts the Port of Digby, a deep-water ice-free port that accesses the Bay of Fundy year-round, and the Saint John Ferry, which transports both vehicles and passengers daily between Digby, Nova Scotia, and Saint John, New Brunswick.
Quality of Life
On the same latitude as Bordeaux, France, and Milan, Italy, the Annapolis
Digby region offers an easy climate, friendly people, and simple living.
The government of Canada recognizes the area as one of the country’s five
“Cultural Capitals,” and Annapolis Digby’s colorful past lives on in its
towns, villages, and countryside. Outdoor enthusiasts appreciate the region’s
canoeing, sea kayaking, hiking, birding, gardening, golf, tennis, and
bicycling. As the seasons change, recreation turns to cross-country skiing,
snowshoeing, and curling.
